Techstructive Weekly #105
Week #105
Another week of heavy toiling to get things right. Really heavy 9 to 11 daily. Exhaustive. Agentic engineering looks sloppy on outside but drains rhe brain really quick. Som many decisions to make, so many things to overlook and squeeze much information in compact way is not easy thing.
Anyways, I can ramble about it, but the point is it was great. Challenging yes, but felt brain was being stretched with skills and real effort. That is the engineering worth doing. If it works out I would be not surprised but if it doesn't then there is still a lot to experiment with.
This weekend will try to relax and brush up basic skills. I don't want to rush into things, I know next week will be quite chaotic, stressful to say the least. But hoping for the best.
I read the wizards hall, a 100 page story about wizard, there was nothing magical yet gave a good whimsical cozy read. I am 15% completed on Fine balance by Rohinton Mistry. That’s a perfect book for rainy atmosphere and 1970-80 vibe. I didn't grew up.in that time but surely it helps in developing empathy for my parents the least in me.
Successfully did 2 releases on friday ;)
Vibe coded, probably not, ai assisted engineering yes boys!
Quote of the Week
The best moments in our lives, are not the passive, receptive, relaxing times, although such experiences can also be enjoyable, if we have worked hard to attain them. The best moments usually occur when a person’s body or mind is stretched to its limits in a voluntary effort to accomplish something difficult and worthwhile.
— Mihaly Csikszentmihalyi, Flow: The Psychology of Optimal Experience
A bit long one this week, but a good one. This phase of my work at docsumo might be the best memories I would reflect then. Right now it feels a bit frustrating, not the work, not the process but just rhe shear act of making it work. That is engineering, sometimes we feel everything should work, but thats what our job is to “make it work”. It wont work, that why we are software engineers, to make it work.

Piotr: Nothing works but everyone is euphoric
This is so true, software is solved, "*laregely*” or *mostly* yet we have crashes and hacks everywhere. Why?
Now a days update feel like dread of breaking something, this is a bit too much maybe but yes it happens sometimes.
This will drive people ro build with care.

Finally some truth about loop engineering
Some truth really some truth. Prompting is still there. Its just prompting with more specific tools and the model capability to iterate with results being presented.
Tests, running the code, generating analysis all helps it move forward with clarity and solve complex problems. Most of engineering is about clearing the grunt work to get to the meat of the problem. AI agent just help in elevating that 10x yes.
Thats why upfront investment and clarity of thinking is vital. Its not magic, its experience with intuition to solve right kind of the problem with right approach. Engineering is not dead, writing code might be, but the act of solving problem still was and still is the crux of engineering.
Hitesh Chaudhary: Kubernetes story
A great story, ai generated yes, but not slop. Intuition based and simple one.
It was sponsored driven but 70% of rhe part was good and explaining the crux.
Must watch for understanding the deeper aspect of kubernetes.
The Primeagen: The worst advice ever
Do not smile, what? If you cannot work for smile, even a virtual smile, you are not living life, life is living you.
If you are in for the money or due to fear, which I understand people have situations, they dont have choice, but getting out of it is also their choice. I am grateful that I am hopefully in a beat combination lf need and want.
Beautiful. Beautiful. So many insights from such a small time. An hour of quality entertainment and creative thinking.
If you do something intrinsicly,.you would not be bothered by others opinion. AI or not, nothing gives more than creative self expression.
Learnt
Learning about Deep agent from langchain is like the bread and butter of AI Engineering
Opencode is really great, cursor is awesome, claude code is great.

Chilling out here, nothing to read for me this week. Yes, there was some openweight model drama .
